12 Most Underrated 2000s Sci-Fi Movies

5. The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy

The 6th Day
Buena Vista Pictures

This criminally underrated adaptation may have been well received upon its 2005 release, but the flick has been all but forgotten in the years since and the adaptation of Douglas Addams’ timeless goofy sci-fi comedy series deserves to be spotlighted fifteen years after its initial release.

Following the destruction of earth due to, er, an intergalactic filing error (how tragically believable), a sarcastic narrator follows the interstellar adventures of Martin Freeman’s hapless protagonist as he encounters all manner of intergalactic oddities, amongst them Zooey Deschanel’s kooky girl-next-door love interest.

With a cast rounded out by a superb Sam Rockwell and Mos Def, this uniquely British sci-fi comedy is an understated treat guaranteed to delight fans of the genre and absurd comedy alike.
