12 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movie Remakes Ever
6. Dredd
At this stage, it’s an open secret that 2012’s
intense, gritty, and sometimes surprisingly psychedelic siege thriller Dredd is
one of the most often-overlooked gems in recent sci-fi blockbuster history.
Playing out like a dystopian remix of the same year’s brutal The Raid, Dredd benefits
Karl Urban’s best performance as the titular officer and a sharp turn from Game
of Thrones’ Lena Headey as a very different sort of villainous queen.
But the star of the show is Alex Garland’s unrelenting screenplay, blasted through with intense action sequences and gruesome, unsparing violence, with its many surprises harkening back to the meaner R-rated sci-fi thriller of the eighties. Before winning over critics with the comparatively cerebral Annihilation and Ex Machina, Garland obliterated any memory 1994’s misjudged Stallone vehicle Judge Dredd for good with this fast-paced, vicious thriller.
Sorry, Rob Schneider.
