12 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movie Remakes Ever

5. Dawn Of The Dead

Solaris George Clooney

Yes, alright, so Zack Snyder’s propulsive remake of George A. Romero’s 1978 original does jettison that flick’s dark anti-consumerism satire in favour of some gross-out black comedy moments, and the film wasn’t the first to bring fast zombies into the mainstream—that title goes to Danny Boyle’s 2002 hit 28 Days Later.

But given how widely derided Snyder’s more recent cinematic outings have been, it’s hard to recall just how intense and undeniably cool this remake was when it first hit screens in 2004. Starring a pretty impressive cast including future Modern Family dad Ty Burrell and Ving Rhames, the film offers one of cinema’s most impressive opening sequences and the pace of the following film rarely lets up. Re-watch 2005’s canon, Romero-directed sequel Land of the Dead if you’re looking for a more thoughtful spin on the living dead—this one is perfect for adrenaline junkies looking for a shock of dystopian sci-fi horror action thrills.
