After a lukewarm reception to Man of Steel and some rather mixed responses to the initial trailers for the next entry in the DCEU, it was essential that Zach Snyder's kicked off this film with a bang. This proved to be very much the case with the phenomenal opening sequence of Batman V Superman:Dawn of Justice, which managed to be a spectacular sight in its own right while also setting up the major conflicts of the film to come.

Ben Affleck was initially seen by many as a poor choice for Batman, but this scene managed to allay our fears from the get go. Having Affleck's Bruce Wayne drive into what is effectively a war zone was a powerful image that allowed us to see the character's heroic traits from the start. A tracking shot showing Bruce Wayne running directly into the falling debris is a truly epic moment, the sign of a man willing to put his life on the line for the sake of others.

The sequence is also a brilliant introduction to why Bruce would have a beef with Superman, looking up at the destruction caused by the man of steel and his fellow Kryptonians while protecting a young girl who had almost certainly just become an orphan herself. It really is a wonderful scene that should have been enough in itself to set up the love-hate relationship between the two superheroes, without all the Lex Luthor scheming we were served up instead.
