5. Ewan McGregor's Black Mask - Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey

The reviews may have been largely positive and by no means was the film a box office bomb, but it's fair to say that the movie with the ever changing title was a bit of a disappointment. The ever changing situation in China definitely hurt the film's box office, but the unnecessary R rating and overall lack of focus within the plot meant that Birds of Prey fell short of what it should have been.

There were positives however, with Ewan McGregor's maniacal Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, stealing every scene he was in. McGregor does with Black Mask what Leto tried and failed to achieve with his interpretation of the Joker, proving equal parts entertaining enigma and insane threat. The ability to depict a man who can turn from a super suave and flamboyant party man to cruel tyrannical murderer the next is pulled off expertly by McGregor, who hams up the fun and menace for a villain you just can't decide if you love or hate.

The other aspect which was a welcome change was the (reasonably) clear depiction of Roman as a character who was gay, without the unnecessary stereotypes that normally comes with this. His sexuality doesn't define his character either, with the only disappointment being that Roman and Victor's same sex relationship wasn't officially confirmed on screen.
