8. Air Bud

The Films You Know: 1997's Air Bud was a surprisingly successful family comedy about a basketball-playing dog, and promptly spawned a sequel, the facetiously-titled Golden Receiver, the very next year, which saw significant losses in both revenue and critical reception. These goofy movies are thankfully all that most people know of what is, in fact, a mammoth series... The Films You Don't: The series just kept going from there: three more Air Bud movies were released to increasing levels of critical disdain, before a spin-off series, Air Buddies, launched, sending protagonist Buddy's puppies on a variety of snow, space and Christmas-themed adventures, while a new film in the series is currently in production for a 2015 release date. Then there's two additional Christmas-themed Santa Paws movies, as if these flicks weren't painfully cutesy enough already. With fourteen movies in the barrel in total, the Air Bud series is an impressive testament to how much people love cute animals...and then some.
