12 Movie Franchises That Need To Take A Break

Now we're getting controversial. While fans were elated to finally get a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, Disney was obviously never going to stop there, and is currently exploring an unfathomable number of prequels and spin-off films.

In addition to Rian Johnson being handed his own trilogy of films and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss crafting their own series of tangential movies, a James Mangold-directed Boba Fett film is in the works, and an Obi-Wan prequel movie also.

While it remains to be seen exactly how many of these projects will come to fruition, Disney is clearly banking hard on the prospect of having at least a new Star Wars movie releasing every year, if not going full Marvel and cranking out two or three.

It's just too damn much. There's a specialness that comes with waiting 2-3 years between films, where they truly feel like an event. Churning out more and more Star Wars every year just makes it all feel ordinary, and that's honestly pretty depressing.

Once Episode IX is released in late 2019, the series needs to go away for about 5 years, where it can restart the cycle with a new trilogy of films spaced a few years apart. It won't happen, of course, but if Disney wants to fend off franchise fatigue and an increasingly exasperated fanbase, this is the way to do it.

If not, Solo won't be the only box office dud of the franchise before long.
