12 Movie Franchises That Need To Take A Break

The Despicable Me movies are cute, fun and easy to watch, but it also feels like they're reaching over-saturation point now. With Minions 2 set to release in 2020 and Despicable Me 4 likely to drop no later than 2022, fans will have been treated to six of these fairly repetitive, formulaic movies over a 12-year period.

Considering that Minions and Despicable Me 3 grossed $1 billion each, there's no chance of this train stopping until the box office takes a hit, but by overexposing audiences to these characters, there's definitely the chance viewers start tuning out soon enough.

There's not really any need to reboot the franchise or anything, but putting it on hiatus in the near-future would be a smart way to stop audiences losing interest in the Minions in particular. It's not like Illumination doesn't have other franchises to keep the lights on, namely The Secret Life of Pets and Sing.
