12 Movie Franchises That Need To Take A Break
5. Transformers
Michael Bay's Transformers franchise has been a poison pill that many of us have chosen to swallow every few years, though the wheels came off the truck last year with the fifth film, Transformers: The Last Knight, barely cracking half of the previous film's $1.1 billion box office take.
Bumblebee is already due to release this holiday season, but Paramount's previous plans for a Transformers Cinematic Universe possibly appear to have been put on hold.
In addition to Transformers 6 being removed from Paramount's schedule earlier this year, word has gone oddly quiet on the dozen-or-so films reportedly pitched for the cinematic universe, perhaps suggesting the studio is indeed rethinking things.
With Michael Bay only producing Bumblebee, it'll serve as an interesting test for the series' future viability in other directors' hands. Unless it's a striking tonal diversion from the Bayformers films, though, it's probably time for the Autobots to rest for a while.
It wouldn't take much effort at all to reboot the series - they've basically done it already with Mark Wahlberg replacing Shia LaBeouf - but doing so while ditching Bay's juvenile tone might be a tougher sell if Bumblebee bombs.
