12 Movie Idiots Who Basically Created Their Own Villains

11. The Joker Created Batman, Who Created The Joker - Batman 1989

Infamously Batman's light created The Joker's darkness - or at least drew it to Gotham - in Nolan's version of the character at least, but he was already a villain before the Dark Knight even appeared, and he merely found validation for his malevolence when he came to Gotham.

But in Tim Burton's films the idea of reciprocal creation is played more clearly: yes, Jack Napier was already a hood before Batman unwittingly dipped him in Axis' sinister chemicals, but it was that act, and more crucially Batman's commitment to becoming an anti-crime symbol for Gotham that ultimately turned the deformed Napier into The Joker as we more traditionally recognise him.

Okay, so maybe it's harsh calling Batman an idiot for that, but why didn't the world's greatest detective check that Napier was genuinely dead? Had Batman any sense of following up, he would have discovered that he was still alive and horribly maladjusted, perhaps stopping him from becoming the Batman's fixated nemesis.

More importantly though, The Joker actually created Batman, by not clearing up his mess properly when he murdered the Waynes. Why didn't he use an extra bullet to wipe out their son and heir, rather than goading him with his trade-mark pale moonlight quip? What sort of half-arsed hitman is he exactly?
