Sony spent years trying to convince Bill Murray to read scripts for a potential Ghostbusters III, which he was cosmically uninterested in doing. When the decision was made to reboot the producers made sure to round up the original cast for cameos, including Murray himself.

Apparently, this appearance was contractually mandated, and there were whispers of a lawsuit between Sony and Murray if he didn’t comply. If this is true, it would explain Murray’s utter lack of interest during his brief screentime. He looks and sounds miserable, which can’t even be explained away as a character trait.

It’s frankly a bit depressing seeing how little interest he has, which isn’t helped by the lame same setup of his scene. His paranormal debunker demands to see the ghost the team claim to have trapped, there’s some unfunny back and forth, and the scene ends with Murray unceremoniously tossed out a window; which at least gave him the escape he wanted.
