12 Movie Openings That Totally Trolled Audiences

10. Scream 4

It should come as no surprise (ironically) to see master of horror Wes Craven’s name appearing on this list.

The late Last House on the Left filmmaker marked himself out as one of the genre's greats by constantly surprising audiences in flicks as diverse as The People Under the Stairs, A Nightmare on Elm Street and of course, the meta slasher series Scream.

Reunited with the scribe of the first two flicks Kevin Williamson, the fourth film in Craven’s quadrilogy saw the pair commit as always to outdoing themselves.

The film includes not one, but two starry fake openings, both revealed to be meta-openings to fictional films. First, teen TV stars Lucy Hale and Shenae Grimes are gruesomely offed after some witty back and forth, then True Blood's Anna Paquin bemoans this sort of smug, predictable self referential horror so much that Kirsten Bell skewers her with a knife...

Which is another movie-within-a-movie, and then the film actually begins.

Cathal Gunning hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
