12 Movie Sequels That Luckily Didn't Happen
1. Battlefield Earth 2
A proposed sequel to a film that shouldn't have been made in the first place. Battlefield Earth is without question one of the worst films ever made. It's long, boring, full of incredibly poor dialogue and some extraordinarily bad performances from some generally extraordinary actors (Forest Whitaker, Barry Pepper and Kim Coates included).
The worst part of the film is that a sequel was planned from the very beginning, as Battlefield Earth only covers around the first half of L. Ron Hubbard's book. Despite producer Elie Samaha claiming it is in fact a good film, and that critics panned it because of their "prejudice" to Scientology, and despite John Travolta's adamant claims that Quentin Tarantino liked it, Battlefield Earth was so disliked by movie goers and critics that the sequel was quickly scrapped.
The film world is infinitely better for this. Another film like the original would have been an enormous mistake. Some films are so good they don't need a sequel; others are so bad they don't deserve one. And this one sits firmly in the latter category.
