12 Movie Sequels That Prove You Should Never Go Back
5. Blues Brothers 2000
What It Billed As
Eighteen years on, Elwood Blues returns for another mission from God (to win a battle of the bands) with two new "brother" in tow and a raft of impressive musical cameos again.
What It Actually Was
A brilliant soundtrack unfortunately wrapped around a turd.
Blues Brothers 2000 - as was always suspected by those in the know - was badly missing the best element of the original: the late, great John Belushi, and this inferior imposter was no more than a slight on his legacy. It didn't have his cockiness, his R-rated cheekiness or his cool (despite the music) and elevating Elwood to lead just made it clear how awful Dan Aykroyd can be at times.
It's not at all funny, there's way too much needless silliness and pretty much the only memorable part of the film is a stupid car chase that was painfully distracting. It all comes off as a shameless cash-in that should have been left as a half-baked executive idea, thus preserving a little more of the sanctity of the original.
