12 Movie Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming

2. Coming 2 America

Demolition Man 2
Paramount Pictures

The film with the biggest time gap between the original film to sequel on this list, the publicity for the upcoming sequel has thus far been quite muted. The original Coming to America wasn't overly liked by critics at the time of film's release, despite a fun premise and having Eddie Murphy in A-Grade form. Thankfully the film has received the critical praise it rightly deserves in retrospective reviews, the light hearted hijinks of Murphy's Prince Akeem searching for his true love in the downtrodden sections of Queens delivering comedy gold.

Set for a December 18 release this year, the story will maintain the premise of the Prince returning to the 'less than grand' surrounds of Queens. With Prince Akeem succeeding in his quest for true love by the original finale, the sequel is set to change its focus, concentrating on Prince Akeem searching for a son he didn't previously know about.

The humour this time around looks set to be around Murphy's Prince Akeem teaching his son, to be played by American comedian Jermaine Fowler, to act in a more 'regal manner', as he grooms him into acting like a Prince. The scenario seems set to explore Fowler's comedic talents more so than Murphy's, although fans of the original can only hope that Murphy is able to display his comedic chops once more in full swing.
