12 Movie Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming
3. Tomb Raider 2
Considering the rather lacklustre affair that the first entry in this rebooted series proved to be, it comes as a shock that another Tomb Raider film is being produced. The original film barely broke even, and while Alicia Vikander received praise for her interpretation of heroic tomb raider Lara Croft, the self-serious nature of the first flick and an over reliance on peripheral support characters made it a rather forgettable affair.
Plans are afoot for a 2021 release, with husband and wife team Ben Wheatley and Amy Jump working as Director and Screenwriter. Press releases have hinted that the movie will more closely resemble the story arcs and tone of the game, including a greater concentration on supernatural elements. While this will no doubt please devotees of the game, it may prove a case of too little too late.
Angelina Jolie's two efforts at Lara Croft were mighty disappointing, despite Jolie being perfectly suited for the role. The same issues have been apparent so far in this iteration of the story, with the translation from video game to fully fledged blockbuster adventure so far falling short in spite of Vikander's strong lead.
One has to think that this is absolutely the final chance for this franchise to get it right, with the fate of many a Video game screen adaptation also riding on the success or failure of this film.
