12 Movies Everyone KNEW Were Lying

1. Star Trek Into Darkness

In the build-up to the sequel reboot of the Star Trek franchise, British heartthrob Benedict Cumberbatch had been cast as the antagonist, and with previews and cast interviews, came a lot of obvious theories about who he was playing.

Marketed as a character called "John Harrison", fans of Star Trek were sceptical of the name, almost as much as they were certain Peter Weller was playing a secret bad-guy.

The theories and speculation started early, with Benicio Del Toro originally cast to play the villain but walked away before filming began. Before he departed, fans were gleaming over the idea of of BDT playing a new-generation version of Khan.

When Benedict was cast, the theories didn't go away and in multiple interviews leading up to the release, Benedict was asked if he was ACTUALLY playing Khan and that John Harrison was just a misdirection.

The twist that John is actually Khan missed the landing because it's reveal wasn't built up at all. And when the name is dropped, fans didn't gasp in excitement, they just nodded as if to say "I knew it". Which still begs the question, why did this film bother lying in the first place?

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
