3. Mowgli: Legend Of The Jungle

White Boy Rick Matthew Mcconaughey
Warner Bros.

Andy Serkis' Mowgli origin story scored squarely mixed critical notices, and pretty much every review started with, "It's not as good as the Jon Favreau Jungle Book."

That is certainly true, but when approached on its own terms, Serkis' film has a lot to offer by way of its jaw-dropping - if occasionally offputting - visual effects, sublime performances and darker approach to Rudyard Kipling's source material.

Many viewers also dumped on the film for one especially upsetting sequence which absolutely made it not-for-kids, but for adults hoping for an outing both mature and glossy, Mowgli more often than not delivered an atmospheric and intoxicatingly grim experience.
