12 Movies In 2018 That Were Unfairly Hated
2. Book Club
In the "movie that didn't completely suck" stakes, there's probably no 2018 release more surprising than Book Club.
Though effectively marketed as a thinly-veiled, feature length commercial for the Fifty Shades of Grey novels, the references to E.J. James' erotic lit franchise are actually surprisingly scant, and simply the leaping-off point for an unexpectedly charming rom-com for the pensioner crowd.
It's the chemistry between Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen that really keeps this one afloat, while a sprinkle of Andy GarcĂa never hurt anyone either.
It's light fluff of the most unapologetic variety, and even if you're far from the OAP demographic, you might find yourself surprised by how shockingly watchable this Old People Need Sex Too comedy is.
