12 Movies In 2018 That Were Unfairly Hated

Despite pulling in almost $200 million worldwide, Denzel Washington's first ever movie sequel released to surprisingly little fanfare, scoring wildly mixed reviews from critics, with many calling it a lazy, over-familiar follow-up to the 2014 original.

But this is a movie where Denzel's Robert McCall works as a Lyft driver, beats the crap out of a room of privileged white punks, and even forces them to give him a 5-star Lyft rating afterwards (with a $16 tip, no less). What more could you possibly want?

The Equalizer 2 is far from perfect: it's too long, there are too many subplots and the villain reveal is comically predictable, but it also features a genuinely touching mentor-mentee dynamic between McCall and troubled young artist Miles (Ashton Sanders), and Washington performs the material with an admirably Shakespearean sincerity.

The action sequences are gloriously nutty, it's brutal as hell, and ultimately one of the year's most under-appreciated action sequels. Don't sleep on it, and roll on The Equalizer 3.
