12 Movies You Probably Hated The First Time Round (But Loved The Second)

5. Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines

The First Time: "Wow, this totally sucks compared to the first two Terminator movies. The T-X chick is pretty hot and some of the action isn't bad, but all that goofy humour totally blows. Arnie wearing Elton John glasses? Please..." The Second Time: Alright, it's not as good as the first two, but they set a mighty high bar that even James Cameron himself would have struggled to meet. The goofy humour isn't fantastic either, but a second, less-judgmental view of T3 does reveal an extremely slick, efficient action movie, driven by some fantastic set-pieces (particularly as the T-X and Arnie destroy an entire street), rock-solid performances, and one of the most unexpectedly bleak endings to a Hollywood blockbuster ever. As a huge fan of the franchise, my first viewing of T3 was a deeply anguished one, but months later I returned to it and was able to breathe a sigh of relief. I've even managed to turn a few of my friends around on this one, though we unanimously agree that the fourth one is a rancid pile of excrement. T3 may not be a five-star movie like its predecessors, but it gets a confident four stars for sure.
