Why there was a four-year wait between Snow White and the Huntsman and this sequel (prequel?) isn't crystal clear, but can probably be wagered on having something to do with Hemsworth's MCU responsibilities and desire to do other prestige pics (Rush, In the Heart of the Sea) rather than a flashy prequel to the umpteenth retelling of a fairytale, that was all style and precious little substance in the first place. That said, Charlize Theron is always a treat, and delivered a pretty impressive performance as evil queen Ravenna the last go round. She's back this time, teaming up with her sister (Emily Blunt), who apparently looks to be a cruel, Bizarro version of Elsa from Frozen. Hemsworth's Huntsman returns to make googly eyes at Jessica Chastain - herself playing a warrior-chick kind of role, a pleasant departure from her norm - and take on the gruesome twosome. If you liked what you saw the first time out, then this follow-up is tailored specifically to you. More batsh*t crazy magic, more dwarves, more axes and more of Hemsworth's dodgy Scottish accent.
