OK, yes, Brad Pitt (who was unable to play Cable because of a schedule clash) was obviously never going to be anything more than a throwaway cameo gag as Vanisher. Nevertheless, his role is perhaps the perfect distillation of the combination of A-list megastar and mere seconds of screentime solely devoted to his character's death.

Meanwhile, the rest of X-Force did look like they would actually play a significant role in the film. Indeed, the mooted X-Force spinoff was already being talked up during Deadpool 2's production.

The idea that X-Force would be important was helped by casting the likes of Bill Skarsgård, fresh off his star-making performance as Pennywise in IT and plausibly the level of actor who would be looking for a juicy franchise role. Skarsgård as Zeitgeist was talked up in pre-release reports as "a key supporting role" alongside the popular Terry Crewes and rising star Lewis Tan.

Then X-Force went into action. And, just parachuting to their first target, they all died horribly. Wade doesn't even bother to use his repaired time travel device to save any more of them than Rob Delaney's hapless Peter. So much for that spinoff, then.
