12 Movies That Will Slap Your Happy Mood Right In Its Face

11. Requiem For A Dream (2000)

The epically soundtracked cult gem is an imperfect introduction into the world of people with some pretty serious addictions that tear apart their heart and soul. In an attempt to hold on to her youth and the beauty that comes with innocence, widow Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) becomes obsessed with looking younger and goes on a crash diet, ignoring her son Harry's (Jared Leto) advice on the dangers of weight loss pills. She increases her dosage to achieve results faster and becomes delirious and pretty crazy, hallucinating about household appliances that attack her. (Spoiler: it's not a happy ending for Sara). Harry is also a heroin addict, who attempts to finance his addiction by pimping out his girlfriend and gets confused as to why she leaves him. In short, it's all pretty grim and even Leto's gorgeous, puppy dog eyes can't save you from the roller-coaster of emotions. The Face Slap Moment: How crazy skinny Harry's mother gets will leave you wanting to put more Yorkshire puddings on your plate.
