10. Johnny Got His Gun (1971)
Johnny Got His Gun is a brutal and shocking reminder of the true horrors of war, as if war wasn't horrific enough. Not only do soldiers experience conditions and situations that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy, coming home isn't the end of the fight, particularly to those who are severely injured. The war soldier is a quadruple amputee who also lost his eyes, ears, nose and mouth during the war; his body is literally a prison. Unable to perform any humanly functions, Bonhams is left in a very dark world with his conscious that allows him to remember his past life, his friends and family - and he is able to understand what his life is like now. His pleas for the army to put him in a freak show depicting the horrors of war or to simply kill him are ignored and the film ends with Joe chanting "S.O.S Help me." The Face Slap Moment: When you realise that this has actually happened to people.
