12 Movies That Will Slap Your Happy Mood Right In Its Face

9. Grave Of The Fireflies (1988)

This infamous semi-autobiographical story, which takes place in 1945, after the Second World War has ended takes the viewer back to events during the war. It unravels the story of Seita and his sister, Setsuko who are the fireflies - the souls of the children looking back over time. As war breaks out in Japan, their neighbourhood is bombed and their mother dies in a fire leaving them in the care of their auntie. As food supplies become hard to come by, the two siblings become extremely malnourished and their auntie is resentful of their presence and having to care for them. The two children leave for a shelter and steal from local farmers to sustain themselves. Seita takes out the remainder of his mother's money to buy food and medicinal care for his sister who later dies from malnourishment. Seita follows shortly after. Not exactly a feel good story. The Face Slap Moment: When the siblings realise that the doctor doesn't care about their malnourishment and doesn't even try to help them.
