12 Movies & TV Shows You Didn't Know Were Remade On Broadway

11. Amélie

When the original film was first released in 2001, it garnered massive success. Taking in over $33 million in only a limited theatrical release, the film quickly became the highest grossing French film released in the States.

With the rise of Netflix, came the second rise of Amélie, a new generation enjoying the quirky, whimsical Parisian rom com and executives took notice. In 2017, it felt as though you couldn't watch a commercial that didn't show teasers of the upcoming musical. Audiences had high hopes as the film was a favorite to many and with Broadway star, Phillipa Soo at its center to play Amélie, the show seemed to be a sure hit before previews even opened.

Sadly, that never proved to be the case. Amélie closed almost as quickly as it opened. Fans and critics blamed the score as the reason why, claiming the show was missing the quirkly, fairytale like energy that captivated them in 2001.
