2018's The Sisters Brothers follows two amoral bounty hunters/assassins (John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix) as they traverse the Old West frontier during the California Gold Rush to find a chemist (Riz Ahmed) who has concocted a new way to find gold.

The sequences in the film are all over the place as the titular brothers commit murder and theft on their way to the chemist, while a private investigator (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), befriends their charge and strikes up an uneasy alliance.

Around the end of the second act, the four leads cross paths and a deal is struck- they will use the chemist' formula to find as much gold as possible.

But it wouldn't be the gritty Old West without tragedy and an accident involving the chemist's formula pollutes the river of gold and kills the chemist, the private investigator and deforms one of the brothers.

The film closes with the brothers returning to their family home, where they both decide to live on the ranch with their mother in peace. Despite all the violence and pain they went through before, it was strange and oddly uplifting to see no harm came to the brothers we'd come to enjoy throughout the film.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
