12 Near-Miss Castings That Almost Improved The Marvel Cinematic Universe

1. Arnold Schwarzenegger As Thanos

Granted, Arnold Schwarzenegger has already played a comic book villain in a movie - Mr. Freeze - and it was terrible. However, he was terribly miscast in the role and the material he was given was pretty damn terrible, so you can actually forgive him. Someone with a more physical presence like Thanos would have been great for Schwarzenegger and, despite the fact that he's hardly the most brilliant of actors in the world, the casting would have gone down a storm. Schwarzenegger has actually been linked to the role before and it was Thanos' creator Jim Starlin who suggested the former bodybuilder would be perfect for the role - and who are we to argue with him? Had Marvel listened to one of their key writers over the years, we could have had this absolutely beast of a casting! Instead, we first had unknown actor Damion Poitier in the role and now we have Josh Brolin. Brolin's a great actor, and he may yet be awesome, but you don't exactly get a Thanos vibe from the former Goonie. So there you have it - ten near-miss castings that very nearly improved the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
