12 Nightmarish Sci-Fi Movie Scenes That Freaked You Out

1. The Chest Burster Scene - Alien

Could the number one spot be anything else?

In 1979, Ridley Scott merged science-fiction with horror to create the first Alien film, and it was something audiences could never even start to predict. From facehuggers to Xenomorphs to acid blood, the film was a nightmare from start to finish and the practical effects remain effective to this day, still scaring new audiences. Of course, the most horrifying scene is the chest burster.

After being implanted with an alien embryo by a facehugger, John Hurt's Kane seemingly makes a full recovery, and the crew of the Nostromo sit down to eat dinner before heading back into stasis. While all initially seems well, Kane suddenly goes into a type of fit, at which point he collapses on the table and a baby Xenomorph bursts out of his chest, shrieking and splashing Kane's blood everywhere as he dies in some serious pain.

It's also widely known the other actors didn't quite know what was going to happen, so their reactions (and THAT scream) is all genuine.

What other film scenes scare the living daylights out of you?
