12 People Who Hated Working On DC Movies
7. Val Kilmer - Batman Forever
Although Joel Schumacher has always said that Val Kilmer is his favourite Batman (apparently chiefly because his mouth was so perfect for the cowl), it seems that all was not well on the set of Batman Forever. There's been far more talk of the friction between the two villains (more of which soon), but it appears that Kilmer wasn't entirely happy.
He's subsequently talked about the issues with the Batsuit (you can't hear, you can't turn you head, you can't go to the bathroom, you fall over easily...) but he also reflects that he wanted to do something more like the Christopher Nolan movies and at the time suggested “why don’t we talk to the people who really love Batman?”
It seems Kilmer didn't ingratiate himself to his director either - despite the later praise - as Schumacher reflected on his apparently disruptive set behaviour (a sure-fire sign of dissatisfaction) by calling him "”childish and impossible."
He also spoke in another past interview about Kilmer, which gave some insight to his mental state during filming:
“[Val Kilmer] was being irrational and ballistic with the first assistant director, the cameraman, the costume people. He was rude and inappropriate. He was childish and impossible. I was forced to tell him that this would not be tolerated for one more second. Then we had two weeks where he did not speak to me but it was bliss!”
