Ethical quandaries have already been a major narrative element in the DC Cinematic Universe so far, so dipping into a classic Joker story to further those ideas would make plenty of sense.

This time, rather than wondering whether Superman needs to be shackled by rules, it would the Joker who would cause Batman morality headaches. The thrust of the classic late 60s arc sees the Joker trying to kill off five henchmen who have displeased him, with Batman forced to save them, despite their criminality.

The story would actually be a good way to claim back Batman's code of honour after Snyder made him a cold blooded killer, and it's one of the most important steps to establishing that the Joker and Batman need each other. That much will no doubt be key to adding an extra level of complexty to Leto's deranged killer clown.
