6. Matthew Vaughn
Matthew Vaughn seems to drop out of as many projects as he actually gets round to making, and as a result the upcoming Kingsman: The Secret Service will only be his fifth directorial effort. Despite just having finished filming a British espionage movie, there is every chance that the director will be tempted to step behind the camera one day on the biggest spy franchise of them all. Each of Vaughn's previous four movies have been wildly different in style and tone, but all of them have been great. Layer Cake gave Daniel Craig one of his first leading man roles in a stylish, noir-influenced crime thriller, Stardust was a wildly inventive ensemble fantasy film, Kick-Ass subverted the comic book movie to hilarious effect and X-Men: First Class rebooted the eponymous mutants in brilliant fashion. Known for balancing crunching action scenes with plenty of humor and emotion, Vaughn and writing partner Jane Goldman's scripts always provide substance to the style. A key factor would be the amount of creative control the director would be given over any potential involvement with the Bond franchise, as Vaughn isn't shy of departing a project if it means compromising his vision.
