Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey was released all the way back in 1991, and though only modestly received critically and commercially, loyal fans have been desperate for a third film for the last quarter-century.

It wasn't until 2011 that the project took on serious traction, with the first version of the script being completed by original writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, and the next year Galaxy Quest's Dean Parisot was tapped to direct.

The threequel, titled Bill and Ted Face the Music, picked up major steam in early 2018, with the film entering pre-production in May of that year, and MGM being locked in to distribute in the U.S.

Current Status: That sunny optimism earlier this year was quickly derailed when Keanu Reeves confirmed over the summer that logistical red tape related to licensing and rights was holding up production, and he seemed down on its potential to actually get made.

How Likely Is It?: The latest speed-bump is sadly indicative of a project that's been wildly up-and-down over the years. Considering that Bogus Journey was hardly a big hit, international audiences don't care about Bill and Ted and the studio has been hoping for a reboot instead, fans should probably just be put out of their misery at this point. It's done. 1/10
