12 Reasons Movies Were Better When You Were Younger

11. Your Standards Were Way Lower

An easy way to dismantle the argument central to this article is simply that kids are silly: they haven't experienced much of the world yet, and so their standards are pretty damn low. They laugh at toilet humour, they'll suffer through dumb dialogue, and they haven't yet established the critical faculties that would make them hate, say, Batman and Robin, a movie which any kid at the time pretty much loved (even while their parents sat through it with their heads in their hands). It was only a few years down the line when adolescence came along that the true awfulness revealed itself, while as a kid, the overwhelming majority of movies you saw likely struck a chord with you, because you were more open-minded (to a ridiculous degree) and less bothered by the annoying little details like plot, dialogue, direction, acting and so on.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
