And finally, if there's one recent film that really, really died in the final act, it was 2022's Palme D'Or winner Triangle of Sadness.

Ruben Ostland's satire of the ultra-rich can be divided into three distinct parts. Firstly, there's a segment involving the complicated relationship between two models, Carl (Harris Dickonson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean). Secondly, there's the long section in which the couple go on a luxury cruise with many other rich guests. The final part takes place on an island after the yacht has sunk, and the survivors are now marooned.

The first part is rock-solid. The second part, on the boat, is tremendous. The final part... kind-of sucks.

After delivering so much rich writing, potent social satire and delightful comedy in the first two acts, Triangle of Sadness just seems to give up. Barely anything really happens in the final act and the movie ultimately ends out of nowhere without having sort of dramatic climax.

It all started out so well, but Triangle of Sadness completely lost it by the end, making it among the most frustrating films in recent memory.
