12 Recent Movies Better Reviewed Than Green Book

10. Love, Simon

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92% (7.4/10)

Though it wasn't terribly surprising that Love, Simon was well-received by critics, it is an interesting case of a popular movie that was nevertheless completely ignored by the Academy.

Despite consistent acclaim for its performances and deft, sensitive handling of delicate, socially relevant subject matter (a teenage boy coming out as gay), the teen drama was totally shut out by the Oscars, likely in part due to Academy voters' short memories (it was released last March).

Still, critics largely agree that it's a better film than Green Book, and beyond its welcome representative qualities in a Hollywood reluctant to embrace mainstream gay stories, it also takes a less problematic and more honest approach to its marginalised protagonist.
