After a whole plethora of straight-to-DVD animated Pokemon movies, a live-action adaptation graced our screens and for most of the time it was passable.

Right from jump, the trailers for the live-action Pokemon were a blast that, even if you'd outgrew Pokemon as a franchise, were entertaining. The establishing shots in the trailer were filled with moments that compelled you to pause and name the Pokemon in the distance, playing a Where's Wally of your favorite monsters.

The dozens of references for kids and young adults made the film appear to be more of an homage to the whole franchise as a whole. If the plot didn't make sense and the movie was terrible, at least there could be some Jigglypuff jokes to stir up nostalgia.

Both main trailers were set to a delightful score, (the first with Happy Together by The Turtles and the second with Hero by Bonnie Tyler) and the whole film looked to be a right light romp.

Sadly though what we got in cinemas just wasn't that memorable. Even with Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu and a Mewtwo being awesome, there wasn't much to stir up the entertained juices within us. Live-action Pokemon is probably best left to a montage.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
