7. Sicario: Day Of The Soldado

The first Sicario was a phenomenal piece of cinema; it was brilliantly written and directed by an auteur with an eye for suspense. When a sequel was announced, fans of the first film were a little skeptic to learn Emily Blunt was not returning and neither was director Denis Villeneuve.

But a film that focuses on the Benicio Del Toro's elusive Alejandro and Josh Brolin's manipulative Matt Graver was still interesting enough, and when we got the first trailer it looked like the tone of the first film was carried over.

From the moment Hildur Guðnadóttir's score blasts into our ears, and the flashes of suspenseful violence filtered on screen, it looked like the sequel to Sicario was going to match up.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case when the film debuted. The spirit of the Sicario Universe was still alive, and we as an audience got to learn a little more about Alejandro and his personal war with the Cartel, but there was something off about the pacing.

Character motivations didn't make sense like they did with the first one and while the performances were still great, the lead characters were probably best being kept in supporting roles.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
