12 Saddest Heroic Sacrifices In Movies

5. Boromir - Lord Of The Rings Fellowship Of The Ring

Being played by Sean Bean could not have weighed the odds more against Boromir when it came to his survival in Lord of the Rings. Not many of the characters of the Fellowship die (or stay dead) but the way Boromir met his end was one of the most devastatingly heroic scenes in the whole trilogy.

As it looks like Merry and Pippin are about to get captured, Boromir rushes in from nowhere, cutting down all the enemies in his sight. All looks to be going in his favour until the chief of the Uruk-hai shoots an arrow, hitting Boromir in the shoulder. He falls, but continues to fight to try and save his companions and delay the enemy's exit, so his other companions can follow closely.

He ultimately dies, redeeming himself for having lost himself to the corrupting draw of the Ring for a moment and we got to see that he genuinely was a true hero.
