12 Saddest Heroic Sacrifices In Movies
4. Baymax - Big Hero 6
Yet another story of a young boy and robot best friend creates another tear-jerking scene when the robot must say goodbye. In Big Hero Six, that robot is Baymax, the adorable, walking, talking healthcare marshmallow. Throughout the film, Baymax becomes a close friend to Hiro and serves as a way for him to stay connected to his deceased brother Tadashi. This is why in the final act it is so devastating for Hiro to lose Baymax, as it reminds him of losing his brother all over again.
In the climax of the film, Baymax and Hiro risk their lives to save a stranded pilot trapped in a teleportation portal. They are drifting in vortex filled with debris and waste, Baymax’s suit is damaged and he can no longer push them to the end of the portal. With limited time left before the portal is closed, Baymax has one trick left and realises to save Hiro and the pilot, he must sacrifice himself. He uses his rocket thrusting arm to push them to safety, staying behind lost in the vortex.
As heartbreaking as it is for Hiro to lose another loved one, Baymax thankfully managed to sneak his healthcare chip into Hiro’s belongings, meaning Hiro was able to rebuild and save him after all.
