2. Crawlers - The Descent
The Descent sees a group of young women - still mourning the death of their friend on a white-water rafting trip a year earlier - embarking on a caving trip to the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. After having stopped for lunch, the group move on through a narrow cave passage and it collapses behind them. The stubborn wannabe leader of the group - Juno - admits that she has led her friends in to an unexplored, unknown area of the cave system and that the only people who know that they are caving think that they are in a completely different system which has already been explored many times. This makes potential rescue virtually impossible. After various heated exchanges that threaten to split the group, a member of the group - Holly - falls down a hole and breaks her leg, which is only the start of the group's nightmare. Another group member - Sarah - wanders off from the group and sees a pale, humanoid creature drinking at a water pool before scurrying off in to the darkness. Sarah tells the other members of the group about this and they think she is seeing things - that is until one of the 'crawlers' attacks the group, causing them to split, and rips Holly's throat out. From that point, it is all down hill. Juno accidentally attacks one member of the group - Beth - and leaves her for dead, Sarah finds out that Juno had an affair with her husband and Beth has to be euthanised as she is in so much pain from Juno's accidental attack. Further crawler attacks see Juno and Sarah become the last two remaining group members. They successfully fight off hordes of the creatures, but Sarah then cripples Juno for leaving Beth to die and for having an affair with her husband. Juno is then killed by more crawlers while Sarah falls down a hole and is knocked out. She seemingly wakes up and escapes, only to find out that she was dreaming. The camera then pans out to reveal the Sarah is in fact at the bottom of a deep cavern, from which escape is impossible, as crawlers descend upon her en masse.
