12 Scariest Movie Monsters That Came From Below

8. The Ancient Ones (The Cabin In The Woods)

The Cabin in the Woods is a clever, unique, Joss Whedon-produced horror film centred around a yearly ritual (one of several that occur around the world) in which a group of teens are invited to a remote cabin in the woods by a supposedly distant relative. The invite, however, actually came from a group of technicians working in a laboratory situated below the cabin. These technicians are working for a powerful group of beings who reside deep beneath the earth's surface who are known as the Ancient Ones. By exposing the group of students to mind-altering drugs that increase their libidos and adventurous streaks, the students becoming more likely to trigger events that will lead to a particular horror-type creature being summoned to kill them. This is in order to fulfill a ritual that will appease the Ancient Ones to prevent them from rising and destroying the earth. Unfortunately, following failures in Japan and Sweden, the American ritual also fails, leading the Ancient Ones rising. The movie ends with a giant hand smashing its way through the earth's surface, indicating the beginning of the end for human-kind.
