12 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels That Deserve A Second Chance
10. Prometheus
Now, technically this one is a prequel, and in fact
according to Gladiator helmer/ Alien franchise mastermind Ridley Scott it’s
really a “story with strands on Alien’s DNA.” But let’s face it—sequel, reboot,
or anything else, there are few people willing to defend Prometheus in any
capacity so Scott can take it or leave it.
Yes, the mythology of the franchise is needlessly complicated by this instalment, and some characters do act moronically in order to ensure the plot remains in motion. But said plot is a relentless thrill ride, one which may be hard to untangle but nonetheless lands with visceral ferocity when it does hit.
Featuring a couple of the franchise’s most brutal moments, the flick is uncompromising enough to make up for its pseudo-philosophical detours. Just try to forget the upsetting image of our protagonist desperately scrambling to remove a rapidly germinating alien from her body before it leaves by force and try telling us that the boring backstory is enough to derail this space-set chiller.
