12 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels That Deserve A Second Chance

9. Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey

There’s really no defending the bad reputation which this film received upon release—outside of being a sequel to a successful sci-fi adventure comedy caper, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Adventure did nothing to earn the critical ire it was handed when it hit theatres in 1991.

Funnier, zanier, and faster paced than its already great predecessor, the flick managed to fuse an upbeat parody of Bergman’s arthouse classic The Seventh Seal with a wild teen comedy and the chemistry between loveable leads Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as the eponymous duo was as reliably strong as ever.

So what did critics have to hate on? Well, nothing really, but this one really does prove that often times sequels are held to an impossibly high standard, and as such it’s well worth revisiting this madcap flick for a couple of campy laughs and a reminder that critics don’t always know what they’re talking about when they reflexively dismiss the later instalments of a franchise as inherently inferior to their predecessors.
