12 Surprisingly Touching Moments In Extremely Macho Movies
4. Sin City - "You Can Call Me Goldie."
Sin City is not a movie you would associate with touching moments and yet this scene certainly gets under your skin. This can be attributed to Mickey Rourke's outstanding portrayal of Marv- a semi-good man living in a really bad world. His unfortunate appearance and a condition that causes him to "get confused sometimes" means that Marv is not exactly a hit with the ladies.
Until he meets Goldie; a beautiful prostitute who shows him the night of his life, only to end up dead the next day with Marv framed for her murder. You could argue that the entire segment is surprisingly touching, as Marv exacts vengeance on those responsible for his beloved Goldie's death; but rather than a quest for revenge over being framed, Marv only wants justice for Goldie and will go to any lengths to get it. With the help of Goldie's twin sister, Wendy, Marv gets his revenge; but it comes at a price as he is subsequently framed for the murder of all the prostitutes and sentenced to the electric chair. When Wendy visits him in prison he mistakes her for Goldie and quickly apologises, blaming his mysterious 'condition.' Recognising everything he has done for her, Wendy lies next to Marv and tells him that he can call her Goldie. It's a beautiful send off for the character as he is able to at least imagine that Goldie knows everything he has done for her before his unjust execution.
