12 Surprisingly Touching Moments In Extremely Macho Movies

2. Heat €“ Hanna Holds McCauley's Hand As He Dies

Micheal Mann's epic crime saga is rightly regarded as one of the best movies ever made about cops and robbers. It has everything; an intelligent script, beautiful cinematography, an absolutely phenomenal gun battle on the streets of L.A and Al Pacino and Robert De Niro sharing the screen as Vincent Hanna and Neil McCauley; two men on opposite sides of the same coin. Pacino plays Hanna; a career-obsessed Lieutenant trying to take down the slick and supremely professional thief Neil McCauley, played by De Niro. After almost three hours of chasing after McCauley, Hanna finally gets his man on an airport runway. After an extremely tense foot chase, McCauley thinks he's got the better of Hanna and is about to shoot when the runway lights cast his shadow across Hanna's path, who promptly shoots him twice in the chest. The touching moment in this scene comes from Hanna's reaction to finally catching his target. Rather than jump for joy, he actually looks upset at what he's been forced to do as McCauley reaches out his hand and Hanna duly obliges. He stands with him as he dies and we see that, even though McCauley was always ready to walk away should he feel the heat coming around the corner, he doesn't have to die alone. The use of 'God Moving Over The Face Of The Water' by Moby over the end credits cements this as a truly touching moment in a movie sparse with them.
