12 Terrible Early Concepts That Almost Ruined Iconic Heroes

2. Luke Skywalker Could've Been A Woman Or Old Man, Chewy Could've Been Bigfoot & Yoda Could've Been A Gnome

How very different Star Wars - and its lead character - would have been had early drafts of the script been used in the final movie. Initially, Luke Skywalker was to be depicted as either a 60-year-old man or as a woman. The idea was spun off, rather than used, and the old man version of Luke became Obi Wan Kenobi and characteristics of Luke as woman were later used for his sister Leia. Then, even when it was finalised that Luke would be a young man, the name Skywalker wasn't mentioned until the fourth draft of Star Wars. Conclusion: Luke could have been very different in a number of ways - and it simply wouldn't have been the same. And look at how Chewbacca and Yoda could have turned out...
Far from being the almost cuddly Wookie we've come to know and love, Chewbacca was initially drafter as a gormless looking Bigfoot parody with elements of a werewolf added in for good measure. And Yoda? Well, Yoda was almost a garden gnome. The less said about that, the better.
