12 Terrible Early Concepts That Almost Ruined Iconic Heroes

1. Woody Could've Been A Dick & Buzz Lightyear Could've Been Stumpy

In a sense, Woody can already be considered something of a douche, thanks to the fact that he initially wanted to get rid of Buzz Lightyear out of jealousy, but he undoubtedly ended up as one the movie's heroes and was never meant to be anything other than a good character in the movie that was actually made. However, early versions of the character had Woody written as a total dick. Pixar were instructed to make the movie a little bit edgy, so they rewrote him as an abused toy who was physically huge in comparison to the other toys and took his poor treatment out on them. He would have mistreated Slinky, for example, which would have made him an outright villain who wouldn't have been salvageable and therefore he would have been completely ruined. And then there was an early vision of Buzz Lightyear...
This version of Buzz was not as sleek or streamlined as the final product. He looked dumpy - almost like a little alien - and innocent and didn't look like he would have been able to pull off the initially cocky attitude that Buzz first appeared with. As such, we're pleased that the Buzz in the final movie was the one chosen. So there you have it - twelve terrible early drafts that almost ruined iconic heroes. Did you enjoy this article?
