7. Meryl Streep Almost Died Filming Into The Woods
Meryl Streep is of course widely known for throwing herself completely into her roles, and that goes a long way to explain her insane 18 Oscar nominations and 3 wins over the course of her storied career. Streep is practically a lock for another nomination for her part as The Witch in Rob Marshall's adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's classic, Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods, but according to fellow cast member James Corden, it almost ended up being a posthumous nomination. During a Q&A for the movie at an awards screening, Corden claimed that when Streep was performing her character's opening scene, she got a little too into the theatricality of it, and after jumping up onto a table, stumbled and began to fall back towards the ground. Corden said, "Shes leaping and jumping up on things and coming up and getting into your face. And she leaps onto the tablecatches her shoe in the dress, and starts to fall back headfirst towards this stone floor...And time slowed down and I thought, Im about to watch Meryl Streep die. Thankfully while Corden was frozen in place, his pregnant co-star Emily Blunt saved the day, catching Streep just before she plunged to the ground.
